Tax on winnings in Japan

Takarakuji prizes are exempt from income tax and residence tax under Japan's Lottery Ticket Act — winnings need not be reported, whatever the size. Sharing a prize can trigger gift tax for the recipient on amounts above the annual JPY 1.1 million gift allowance, and foreign winners should check liability in their home country.
