Lotto (Netherlands) — how prizes are taxed

Dutch gaming tax applies above the €449 exemption; Nederlandse Loterij advertises prizes net of tax.

Netherlands: the rules

The Netherlands levies gaming tax (kansspelbelasting) on lottery prizes above €449 — the rate rose from 30.5% to 34.2% in 2025 and to 37.8% from 1 January 2026. For licensed Dutch operators the tax is withheld at source, so winners receive the net prize; wins of €449 or less are exempt.
