Callie Rogers

Callie Rogers was 16, in foster care in Cockermouth, Cumbria, and earning GBP 3.60 an hour as a shop assistant at her local Co-op when she won GBP 1,875,000 on the UK National Lottery in 2003, making her the youngest jackpot winner in the game's history. Her prize matches one of eight equal shares of the GBP 15,000,000 guaranteed jackpot in Lotto's 57th Superdraw, drawn on Saturday 28 June 2003. Rogers has said she gave roughly GBP 500,000 to family and friends, spent about GBP 250,000 on cocaine, tens of thousands on cosmetic surgery, clothes and cars, and bought homes for herself and relatives, and that she lost large sums lending to distant relatives and friends of friends. She attempted to take her own life at 21. By her thirties the money was gone and she was reported to be living on a tight budget as a mother of four. She has campaigned for the minimum lottery age to be raised, and the UK later lifted it from 16 to 18.

As of 2023 Rogers had secured a place at the University of Central Lancashire to retrain as a nurse, after earlier working as a carer, and has described the win as a curse (2023).
