What happened

Powerball draw 1218 on Thursday 19 September 2019 carried A$150 million, the largest division one pool Australian lotteries had offered to that date. Three entries matched all seven numbers plus the Powerball - 26, 4, 17, 5, 18, 8 and 31, with Powerball 9 - and each took A$50 million. Two entries were sold in Queensland and one in New South Wales. A man from inner Brisbane, who bought at Mater News Central in South Brisbane, said he had checked his ticket late that night: "I am so incredibly overwhelmed." A Sydney father who bought online told officials: "My god. I just told my wife... I can't believe it. I am speechless." The third entry was unregistered, so The Lott had no way to contact the holder and publicised the selling outlet, newsXpress Brassall in Ipswich, to prompt local players to check. An Ipswich grandmother came forward on 27 September 2019, a week after the draw: "I was shaking. I was completely overwhelmed and still am!" She said she would make her siblings, children and grandchildren millionaires, buy a Mustang and buy a new home. Eighteen division two entries won about A$126,000 each. All three winners stayed anonymous.

Where they are now

All three A$50 million prizes were claimed by 27 September 2019, the last by the Ipswich grandmother, who said she wished to remain anonymous. As of 2026 none of the three has been publicly identified and The Lott has published no further follow-up on them.

One detail worth keeping

The third A$50 million entry was unregistered, so The Lott named the shop - newsXpress Brassall in Ipswich - and an anonymous grandmother came forward a week later.
